NO REST

FOR ENEMY IN TOBRUK AREA

FURTHER DARING SORTIES

BY GARRISON.

NOTABLE PART PLAYED BY INDIANS.

LONDON, July 27. On Friday night and Saturday

morning an Indian patrol made a particularly daring raid from Tobruk, penetrating round the flank and attacking from the rear in quick succession four enemy strong

points. : The enemy were ejected at the point of the bayonet and suffered considerable casualties. At the same time British and Australian patrols made a deep penetration into enemy positions. The Australians captured and occupied strong points outside our perimeter and the British patrol brought back prisoners and valuable information.

A communique issued from British headquarters in Cairo and transmitted by British Official Wireless gives details of the above-reported operations and adds: —

“The increasing extent to which the enemy nerves are being frayed, by the relentless and gallant activities of our patrols, is evidenced by the weight and wildness of the counter-fire put down all over the front, usually after our patrols have safely returned to their bases.

“In the frontier area our artillery successfully engaged enemy mechanical transport and forward observation posts. In this zone too the patrolling initiative remains in our hands. “While tho precess of reconstruction is proceeding smoothly, the situation in Syria remains quiet and uneventful.” ’
