CHURCH OF THE EPIPHANY

LADIES’ GUILD & KNITTING CIRCLE. There was a good attendance of members at the last meeting of the Church of the Epiphany Ladies’ Guild and Knitting Circle, held in the Epiphany Hall, Kuripuni. Mrs I'. Whitton, who presided, extended a welcome to new members. The wool knitting circle reported having handed in 77 garments during the month to the patriotic committee and also nine to the air force. Since the beginning of the season the circle had handed to the patriotic committee mittens, balaclavas, pullovers, scarves, etc., totalling 200; to the air force pullovers and balaclavas numbering 65, •and to the Navy League 9 pairs of gloves.

It was stated that the immediate concern of the guild would be work associated with the annual sale.

A competition for the best and most inexpensive article made from a sugar bag resulted in a marvellous array of useful goods, such as knitting, shopping and peg bags, aprons, cushions and tea cosies, which made the task of the judge, Mrs V. W. Joblin, a difficult one. Mrs H. Hirst was awarded first prize. The next meeting will be held on August 7 at Mrs Hirst’s residence, “Nymsfield.” Members are a'sked to bring an oven cloth for the competition. On August 21 the competition will be for an apron. The tea hostesses were Mrs Adams and Misses Ashwell and McCarter.
