A service for all Red Cross members and their friends, held at St. Matthew's Church last night was largely attended. An address was given by the Ven. Archdeacon E. J. Rich, who used for his text, “Himself Took Our Infirmities and Bare Our Sicknesses,” from St. Matthew, chanter 8, verse 17. The choir rendered the anthem “Gloria” (Mozart), and the service concluded with the singing of the National Anthem. Death in Burning Hut. A fire which broke out about eight o’clock yesterday in a hut on the farm of F. J. Townsend, Merino Downs, Otago, resulted in the death of an elderly man named Frederick Robert Cullimore, who was employed on the farm. The farm manager, Mr J. A. Robertson, saw smoke issuing from the hut, and on opening the door was met by a burst of flame. He succeeded in getting to Mr Cullimore and dragging him outside, but examination of the body disclosed that life was extinct.
