COMING OF AGE
ENJOYABLE PARTY MISS RENA STAINS HONOURED. FUNCTION IN MASTERTON LAST NIGHT. Mr and Mrs Frank Stains, Miriam Street, Masterton, entertained a large number of guests in the Savage Club rooms last night in honour of the coming of age of their daughter, Miss Rena Stains. Visitors were present from all parts of the district and the gathering proved an outstanding success. Mrs Stains wore a dress of dusky pink marocaine with a shoulder spray to tone. Miss Rena Stains wore a charming creation of pink georgette. Dancing was enjoyed to music supplied by Messrs Jack Barnes and W. Ashworth. Extras were played by Mr D. Minifie and Miss Mavis Cooper (paino) and Mr Harold Cooper (piano accordian). Proceedings went with a swing under the capable supervision of the M.C.. Mr C. Roff. Miss Alma Davey entertained with a song, which was well received. An excellent buffet supper was served. The well laden tables were attractively decorated with Iceland poppies and green foliage. A blazing log fire provided a cheery atmosphere. Following supper an adjournment was made to the hall. Pride of place was taken on a table by the birthday cake which was beautifully iced with pink icing and decorations. Mr Richard Jenkins (uncle of the guest of honour) proposed the health of Miss Stains, in an appropriate speech. Miss Stains, who was accorded musical honours, proposed the toast to her parents. Mr Stains suitably replied and handed his daughter an ornamental key, on which all present later wrote their names. Miss Stains thanked her parents and all who had assisted in running the function. She expressed her appreciation of the many beautiful and useful gifts she had received. After the candles on the cake had been lit and extinguished each guest received a piece of the cake. The cake, which was made by Mrs Stains, was iced ,and decorated by Miss Norma Davey. Dancing was resumed, a Monte Carlo waltz competition being won by Miss June Hall and Mr Cyril Carle. An enjoyable gathering was brought to a close with the singing of Auld Lang Syne and the National Anthem.
