An American chemical society reported today the development of an entirely new type of explosive rivet, which may prove an important factor in speeding up aircraft production and simplifying design. The high explosive is secreted in a cavity at the end of a shank and heat is applied by an electric gun. which detonates a charge. The whole operation is performed from one side with greater ease and speed than is possible with the means now in use. Rivetting will be stepped up from four to fifteen per minute.
