MANURE RATION

FOR TOP DRESSING QUANTITIES FIXED. STATEMENT BY MINISTER. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The Government’s decision about the quantity of fertiliser to be allowed for topdressing was announced yesterday by the Minister of Agriculture, Mr Barclay. “As a result of the returns secured from approximately 70,000 farmers, I am able to announce that farmers will be able to receive 40 per cent of the average annual amount of phosphate which they have used for topdressing during the past two seasons,” said the j.viimsi.er. “it has been decided that where a farmer wishes to take other types of phosphate in place of superphosphate, increases commensurate in the phosphatic content of such fertiliser will be allowed. Thus, for every ton of superphosphate which a farmer is granted in his ration, he may replace it with any one of the following fertilisers at the stated quantities: Basic super, 1 ton 4cwt; reverted super, 1 ton 4cwt; serpentine super, 1 ton 7 cwt; Hesketts slag, 2 tons Bcwt. “It is expected that many farmers will instruct their merchants to add lime or other non-phosphatic ingredients to their fertiliser ration with a view to making supplies go further, and the Government is applying no restrictions in this connection.”
