The body of Mr Joseph Edward Raison, a well-known resident of Greytown, was found yesterday afternoon in a well at the rear of his residence. The late Mr Raison, who was 67 years of age, had been in poor health for some time. Mi’ Raison was an old and highly respected resident of Greytown and had always taken a keen interest in the affairs of the town. For a period he was a member of the Borough Council. He was a carrier by occupation and well-known throughout the district. Until his illness recently he served on the committee of the Greytown Working Men’s Club and at one time was president of the club. He was a former member of St. Luke’s Vestry and was a life member of the Greytown Volunteer Fire Brigade. In his younger days he was an enthusiastic supporter of Rugby. He was a member of the Greytown senior team about forty years ago, and was a noted forward. He played for several seasons for the Wairarapa representative team. Racing also interested him greatly and he was a steward of the old South Wairarapa Club and at the time of his death was a member of the Wairarapa Racing Club and of the Wellington Trotting Club. He is survived by a widow and a grown-up family. The funeral will take place on Friday at 2.30 p.m. Personal Items. Mrs W. J. Knell has returned from Wellington. Miss Joan Judd left today for a holiday visit to Taihape. • Mrs F. Best has returned after a few days spent in Wellington.
