REFUSED BY TURKEY
RELEASE OF INTERNED FRENCH SHIPS. (Bv Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) LONDON, July 21. According + o “The Times" Istanbul correspondent, the Vichy Government is demanding that Turkey release the French ships sheltering at Alexandretta, pleading that, as a state of wr.i does not exist between France and Britain, they should not be consideied belligerents. It is understood that Turkey has refused the demand bn the grounds that the ships took refuge at a Turkish port as the result of warlike opeiations in Syria between French and British forces.
