MEETING OF WAIRARAPA COMMITTEE REP. MATCHES ARRANGED. SEVEN-A-SIDE TOURNEY TO BE PLAYED. (‘■Times-Age” Special.) Mr K. G. Fairbrother presided over the fortnightly meeting of the Wairarapa Rugby Football Union held at Carterton last evening. There were also present Messrs R. Howard, F. Morton. S. Henson, E. B. Booth, M. J. Parker, G. Udy, F. E. Brough, J. T. Scott and the secretary-treasurer, Mr H. A. McPhee. An apology for absence was received from Mr V. Welch. The treasurer reported a credit balance at the Bank of New Zealand of £l6l Ils sd. Accounts amounting to £l7 4s 6d were passed for payment. < The secretary of the Bush Rugby Football Union wrote asking for the Wairarapa Referees' Association to submit the names of two referees, one to be selected to control a game for the Bebbington Shield to be played at Pahiatua on July 26. The names of Messrs W. Grantham and E. Grantham were submitted. The Hawke's Bay Rugby Union wrote congratulating Wairarapa upon its meritorious win against Hawke’s Bay at Masterton and conveying the Union's sincere thanks for the entertainment and hospitality provided for their representative players at Masterton. Mr C. M. Le Quesno, Dannevirke, wrote stating that Saturday, August 2, would be suitable for the Hawke’s Bay —Wairarapa Veterans match at Carterton, and asking for certain expenses to be met. It was resolved to agree to the request. A letter was received from the Wanganui Union confirming August 2 as the date of the match against Wairarapa at Wanganui. Mr K. H. Reid was appointed manager. It was decided that the senior championship be closed and Carterton declared the winners. This, it was stated, would not bar the playing of the Glad-stone-Featherston game at Gladstone, on August 9, the winners to have the right to challenge Carterton in the Redmond Cup match. On the same date Carterton will play Greytown at Carterton for the Reid Cup. It was resolved that a senior seven-a-side tourney be played at Carterton showgrounds when it is expected 11 teams will compete. The Wairarapa Primary School Rugby Union was granted permission to play their seven-a-side tourney at Carterton on Saturday next. The games will start at 8.45 a.m. and finish at 12.30 o'clock. Mr Gordon Udy was appointed manager of the third grade representative team to play Bush at Featherston on Saturday. Mr W. Dawson was appointed referee. It was resolved the Wairarapa veterans play in Gladstone colours against Hawke's Bay on August 2 and that prices of admission be Is. Mr Bert Hurley will be the referee. It was resolved to make an effort to arrange a game with the New Zealand Army Team in the Wairarapa if possible. The Masterton Club is to be advised that in future when they play a game as they did last Saturday with Homewood or any other club, they should receive the permission of the Union before such games are arranged. The next meeting will be held on August 4. VETERANS MATCH. On Saturday, August 2, a game will be played on the Carterton Showgrounds between teams comprising Wairarapa and Hawke's Bay football veterans. The Wairarapa team will be finally selected this week. Among those who will play will be J. Donald, Quentin Donald, Bob Booth, Martin Parker, George Stefi'ert and Riki Jury. Forty minute spells will be played. Hawke's Bay will send down a strong team.
