SHOWN BY THE RED ARMY

In Struggle Against Nazi Invaders GROWING OPTIMISM IN LONDON CRITICAL DAYS IN DEFENCE OF MOSCOW (By Telegraph.—Press Association.—Copyright.) (Received This Dav, 11.-15 a.m.) LONDON, July 21. All reports from Russia and comments by military writers in London emphasise the Red Army’s high confidence in its struggle against the German invaders. It is considered in London that the results of the month’s fighting justify a belief that the Russians will outlast the Germans in a titanic struggle in which every modern weapon of sabotage and vitriolic propaganda is being used on a scale never before contemplated. It is expected that the next few days will be critical in the defence of Moscow, and will show whether the Russians are able merely to delay the Germans or to stop them. Moscow had an air raid alert this morning lasting for forty minutes, but no incidents are reported. A German communique states that German, Rumanian and Hungarian troops are pursuing the beaten foe in the southern sector. Further progress, it is added, has been made on other fronts and. several encircled enemy groups have been destroyed. A German news agency claims that a Russian division at Mohilev was wiped out on July 19, after fierce resistance, and despite unfavourable weather. German troops in the northern sector, it is stated, defeated the remnants of five Russian divisions, killing 4,000 men. A German division in the central sector encircled strong Russian detachments.
