KILLED IN CRETE

CORPORAL C. E. GOODHUE. Advice has been received by Mrs T. Vose, of South Road, Masterton. that her son, Corporal C. E. Goodhue. was killed in Crete on May 2G. Corporal Goodhue enlisted in Masterton a few days after the outbreak of war and proceeded overseas with the First Echelon. He was a single man, 24 years of age and had resided in Masterton for about 16 years. A baker by occupation he served his apprenticeship with Mr T. Hawksworth, of Masterton. He played Rugby for the Masterton Football Club in the junior and later the senior teams. It is understood that Corporal Goodhue lost his life when a bomb dropped by him while he was filling his waterbottle. His many Masterton friends will exteind their deepest sympathy to the bereaved relatives.
