ATTEMPT ON MUSSOLINI’S LIFE DURING REVIEW OF TROOPS FOR RUSSIA. ASSAILANT A MEMBER OF ANTI-NAZI GROUP. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 11.35 a.m.) LONDON. July 21. The Moscow radio quoted a report stated to have been received from the Italian-Swiss border, that a Monarchist officer fired two shots at Mussolini at Ferrara recently. The shots missed. The attempt was made while Mussolini was reviewing troops about to be sent to the Eastern front. Details arc closely guarded, but it is known that the attempt was made by Luigi Roazio, a Royalist belonging to a new anti-German opposition group headed by Signor Starace and Signor Muti. Starace was deprived of the post of Chief of Staff of the Fascist Militia last May and Muti succeeded Starace as Secretary of the Fascist Party and resigned a year later.
