Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants, as representative of members d employed in workshops in the South it Island. Flight Lieutenant D. W. Morrish, s who is in charge of training sections d of New Zealanders in England for the Fleet Air Arm, has been promoted to t the rank of Squadron Leader, accorde ing to private advice received. Squadron Leader Morrish left New Zealand , 11 years ago to take up a short service t commission in the R.A.F. 3 The annual report of the Masterton e Horticultural and Industrial Society i states: Since the last annual meeting, e death has robbed the Society of some a of its most outstanding supporters, t notably Lady Perry and Mr F. C. i Stowell, both of whom were regular and successful exhibitors at the So- - ciety's Shows; also Messrs E. Hale and J. S. Berriman. two of the Society's _ earlier executive officers, who in more recent years have on many occasions - officiated as judges. Members will join 1 in extending sympathy to the relatives ? of these members who have passed - away. The death has occurred of Mr Henry • G. Spackman, Hastings, who was recognised as one of the leading musicians in Hawke’s Bay. Mr Spackman I formerly lived in Napier, Wanganui ' and Gisborne. He was chiefly associ- ' ated with orchestral performances, but • he is well remembered as a player of ' the piano and the violin who gave L great service to music. Born in Cor- ! sham. Wiltshire, England, in 1859, Mr Spackman came to New Zealand in 1883, and was engaged as organist for St. John’s Cathedral, Napier. After ten years he resigned, and subsequently lived in Gisborne, where he became , organist of the Holy Trinity Church. ■ Later he was appointed music master at Wanganui Collegiate School.
