FAILURE TO STOP
AFTER MOTOR ACCIDENT CHRISTCHURCH MAN FINED. HIS OWN DAUGHTER INJURED. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH. This Day. A fine of' £lOO was imposed on Harold James Kernahan, who appeared in the Supreme Court for sentence on three charges of failing to stop after an accident. In addition, Mr Justice Northcroft cancelled Kernahan’s driving licence for ton years. Counsel said there was no suggestion that Kernahan was hogging the road or that alcohol had any bearing on the case. Kernahan suddenly saw a small car parked on the side of the road in front of him and swerved out. Kernahan’s car struck the other car a glancing blow. Two girls beside the parked car were thrown to the ground. Driving on to his home, some hundreds of yards away, Kernahan was discussing the accident with his wife, when his daughter, one of the young women hurt in the accident, was brought in. Kernahan, who is aged 53, had an unblemished record. “In your own interests I think you should never drive again,” said the Judge, after imposing the fine, “and I propose to make it difficult for you to do so.”
