ON ANY PART OF EASTERN FRONT According to Russian Report GERMAN CLAIMS VAGUELY DEFINED CONTINUED FIGHTING IN SMOLENSK AREA LONDON, July 20. The latest German communique speaks vaguely about overcoming the resistance of the Russians in Bessarabia and pursuing them on the left bank of the Dniester. Unspecified successes are claimed on the Finnish front, and severe losses are said to have been suffered by Russian troops when they tried to break through at several places where they are encircled. Operations, the enemy communique states, are proceeding according to plan in the Smolensk area. It is pointed out that even if the Germans did take Smolensk last Wednesday, as they claimed, they have not gone much further on the road to Moscow. A Russian communique states that although intense fighting continues in several sectors, no substantial change has taken place on any part of the front. It is stated that harvesting is already in full swing in many parts of the Soviet Union.
