The death occurred at Waipukurau on Saturday of Mr James Robert McKay, of Kumeroa, at the age of 67 years.
Mr and Mrs R. Kenny, Raglan Street, Lansdowne, have received word that their son, Private Alexander Robert Kenny, is missing from Crete. Mr Terence Barr, manager of the Waimana (Bay of Plenty) Cheese Factory, has been appointed supervising manager of the Cambridge Dairy Company’s six cheese factories. Mr Barr is a son of Mr and Mrs J. Barr, Colombo Road, Masterton. Lieutenant-Commander P. G. Connolly, R.N.V.R. (N.Z.), a member of the Dunedin City Council, who has been serving on a mine-sweeper in British waters, will return to New Zealand in December to take up a new appointment.
Mr and Mrs Geo. Clarke, Bentley Street, Masterton, received advice on Saturday that their son, Bruce, was missing in Crete. Pte. Clarke, who is 20 years of age, enlisted with the Second Echelon. Prior to taking up service with N.Z. Railways at Palmerston North, he, was employed by the firm of Messrs J. C. Ewington, at Masterton.
The death occurred in Nelson last week of Mi - Leo Buckeridge, who taught vocal production in Wellington for some years a generation ago. Mr Buckeridge studied singing in Italy and in London. He afterward returned to New Zealand and taught vocalism in Christchurch, Wellington, and latterly in Nelson. He js survived by a widow.
The interment of the late Mr Walter Jacobson, of Carterton, took place at the Masterton Cemetery on Saturday. The Rev. H. S. Kings conducted the service at the Chapel of Hyde’s Funeral Service Ltd. and also that at the graveside. The pall-bearers were Messrs A. Parks, W. Emerson, R. Ralph, H. Beckett, F. Curry and M. Walker. The Waingawa branch of the Fleezing Workers’ Union sent a wreath.
There was a large and representative attendance at the funeral of the late Mr Arthur Styles, which took place in Masterton on Saturday afternoon. The Ven. Archdeacon E. J. Rich conducted a service at the residence and also officiated at the cemetery. Wreaths were sent by the staff of Woolworths Ltd., E. T. Waters and Sons, Cricket Umpires’ Association, Wairarapa Cricket Association, Red Star Cricket Club and Lansdowne Cricket Club, besides many others. Messrs J. Renner, F. Hoar, J. MacKenzie, J. Andrews, S. Delahunty, and H. D. Reid were the pall-bearers. The death occurred in the Masterton Hospital yesterday of Mr Komihana James Karaitiana, of Te Ore Ore, at the age of 48 years. The late Mr Karaitiana had not been in the best of health for some time past. He was a well-known resident of Te Ore Ore, where he had lived all his life. During the last war he served as a member of the Pioneer Battalion. He is survived by a widow, five daughters and one son. The funeral will take place on Wednesday, leaving the Te Ore Ore Catholic Church, following a service at 2 p.m., for the Native Cemetery. The death occurred yesterday at [ Wellington of Sir George Shirtcliffe, 0.8. E., chairman of directors of A. S. Paterson and Co., Ltd., in his eightieth year. He was born at Worksop, England, and later came to New Zealand. Sir George began his career as a cadet in the Government Land Office, Timaru, in 1877. In 1882 he was appointed accountant for the Canterbury Farmers’ Co-operative Association, rising two years later to the managership. Sir George became manager and a partner in the firm of A. S. Paterson and Co., Ltd., in 1890. Sir George served on the Wellington City Council from 1907 to 1913, and was a member of the Wellington Harbour Board from 1906 to 1908.
