KILLING SEASON
PRODUCTION AND QUALITY EXCELLENT. LAMB RECORD AGAIN EXCEEDED. The 1940-41 killing season, the second since the start of the war, has again been excellent, both for production and quality, according to the annual report of the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board. The report states: — “Last season’s record kill of lambs has been exceeded this season, and it is estimated that the -season will finish with an export kill of approximately 11,175,000 lambs, compared with 10,387,137 for 1939-40 season. This season’s kill will represent a new record in the percentage of export killings to tailings.” Killings of beef, lamb and pork up to May 31, 1941, were:—Beef (quarters), 550,744; lamb (c/cs.), 10,694,447; porkers (c/cs.), 201,192; baconers (c/cs.), 299,558; choppers (c/cs.), 10,229.
