President Roosevelt announced that the occupation of Iceland was partially completed but he was not going to reveal the future movement of troops. “Obviously we are going to defend Iceland and protect the American garrison; therefore, it is the unwavering policy of the United States to protect the sealanes to Iceland and other outlying defence bases against any attack or threat of attack,” he said. It is disclosed that he would send a special message to Congress next week, urging extended service for selectees, reservists and guardsmen.
