OPTIMIST CLUB

MEETING IN MASTERTON LAST NIGHT. DISCUSSION ON PROHIBITION. The weekly meeting of the Masterton Optimist Club held in the Y.M.C.A. Rooms last night took the form of a club night and proved most successful. Chief Smiler R. Baikie presided over a good attendance of members. Mr Alan Mackenzie Douglas was admitted to membership. Following the sherrif's session a song session led by Optimist G. Barr was enjoyed. Optimist E. C. Coddington presided at the piano. In the programme which followed Optimist Esler sang a humorous song and Optimist Forrest gave a recitation. A. five minute talk on aspects of prohibition in New Zealand was given by Optimist Coddington, following which Optimists Gaze, Esler, Carle, Lee and Forrest spoke briefly on points raised by Mr Coddington, who at the conclusion gave an excellent summing up. The rest cf the evening was taken up with an address by Optimist C. W. Gaze, general secretary cf the Masterton Y.M.C.A., on the experiences of Y.M.C.A. workers in: Crete and Greece. The meeting closed with prayer led by Mr Gaze. Captain J. A?. Dolan, D. 5.0.. will be the speaker for the next meeting. His subject will be “Military Intelligence in the South African War.”
