BUSINESS AT TODAY’S MEETING PROPOSED NEW BUILDINGS AT GREYTOWN. ALTERATIONS TO PLANS. The monthly meeting of the Wairarapa Hospital Board was held in Masterton today. The chairman, Mr H. H. Mawley, presided. There were also present: Mesdames S. Fletcher, J. Robertson, Misses H. Card, C. McKenny, Messrs Trevor Deetham, A. Forsberg, W. B. Martin, P. R. Welch, C. T. Richardson, A. Clark, D. McGregor, F. S. H. Bolton, J. A. McLeod, H. Thomas, W. I. Armstrong, F. Court and W. Britland. An apology for absence was received from Mr J. F. Thompson (Greytown).- , The Department of Health wrote suggesting alterations to plans submitted for the proposed new buildings at Greytown Hospital. Mr Mawley and the secretary, Mr Norman Lee were appointed to discuss matters with the Director, Division of Hospitals, Department of Health, Wellington. The Department also advised that owing to difficulties in obtaining supplies, plans for new buildings should provide where possible, for timber frame construction. The Department of Health wrote approving of the appointment of Miss E. Turner, Cashmere, as tutor sister at the Masterton Hospital. The Managing-Secretary,' Mr Norman Lee, stated that from A.pril 1 to June 30 receipts were in excess of expenditure by £953. There was a credit balance of £1,426. Mr Lee submitted a detailed statement concerning hospital expenditure. Dr. T. L. Parr, medical superintendent, reported that 115 patients remained in Masterton Hospital at June 30. Fifty-six operations were performed, 110 X-ray investigations made, and 178 pathological examinations and 362 massage treatments given. In addition 23 recruits had their chests X-rayed for the military authorities and 183 civil and 23 outpatients attended the hospital. The Matron of Masterton Hospital, Miss H. D. Grant, stated that five nurses sat for the final' State examination. The State maternity examination was also held. The ambulance answered 20 calls during the month, covering 398 miles. Miss L. Higginson, Matron of Greytown Hospital, reported that the daily average number of patients was 25.70. Thirty operations were performed. The ambulance answered 12 calls covering 369 miles. Nineteen outpatients were treated. On June 18 the Martinborough Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union visited the Buchanan wards and presented gifts to patients and entertained then with tea and a concert. The medical superintendent, Dr. A. C. Oakey left the hospital for military duties on June 30. The Matron of Pahiatua Hospital, Miss N. Ockendon, reported that 27 operations had been performed and fifty patients were treated. The ambulance answered 4 calls covering 111 miles.
