DISCLOSURE OF POLICY DEMANDS BY JAPANESE MILITARISTS. FEARS THAT GOVERNMENT M/YY RETRACT. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyrightl (Received This Day, 11.55 a.m.) TCKIO, July 15. Criticising the Government’s failure to disclose the foreign policy decided upon at the Imperia! conference on July 2, trie “Kokumin Shimbun” says the public is being kept in .darkness at a time when the nation is passing through a crisis. The Government should clarify its policy. It is feared that it. may even retract its Greater East Asia co-prosperity scheme before an Anglo-American offensive. The Japanese naval authorities at Shanghai disclosed that they had issued an ultimatum to the French in Hankow demanding that they accept full responsibility for the gun fight, in the French Concession on July 13. An indemnity for the family of the victim an unreserved apology and a promise of non-rccurrcnce are also demanded So far the French have not replied, thus aggravating the strained relations.
