BRITISH BOMBERS
ACTIVE IN LIBYA AGAINST ENEMY SEA & AIR BASES. AXIS PLANES DESTROYED. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 11.55 a.m.) RUGBY, July 15. A R.A.F. Middle East communique states:' “Bomber aircraft of the R.A.F. yesterday carried out an attack on the aerodrome of Zuara, in Tripolitania. Eombs were seen to hit aerodrome buildings. A number of enemy transport aircraft on the ground were damaged by machine-gun fire. One Junkers 52 was set on fire. During the night of July 13, heavy bombers raided Bardia and Benghazi, causing a number of explosions and fires. A Junkers 88 and a Savoia 79 were shot down by our aircraft in the Western Desert during recent Operations. Our fighters attacked and severely damaged a Savoia 79 which approached the Syrian coast yesterday. The enemy aircraft was last seen outat sea, emitting clouds of black smoke. It appeared unlikely that it would reach its base. All our planes returned safely.”
