NAZI DRIVE TOWARDS LENINGRAD

According to Soviet Communique ENEMY MECHANISED TROOPS SURROUNDED HARD FIGHTING ALSO IN OTHER SECTORS LONDON. Duly 15. A Russian communique gives confirmation of reports from some neutral sources that the German offensive in the east is not going quite according to plan. The communique reports a big battle in the sector near the Estonian border, where the Germans are attempting a drive towards Leningrad, and claims that the Russians have surrounded the German mechanised troops and are destroying them, section by section, and driving others back toward the Estonian border. Many German tanks and troops have been captured, with arms of all kinds. In the central sector heavy losses are reported on both sides. German motorised and mechanised units are trying in vain, says the Russian communique, to advance further east. In the Ukraine, fighting is reported just inside the Ukraine frontier and the Russians are counter-attacking enemy infantry trying to join up with advance tank units. These forward enemy detachments are claimed to be in a difficult position. The Russians state that yesterday 52 German planes were destroyed, for the loss of 24 Russian planes.
