The friends of Mr C. W. Kerry, Cornwall St., Masterton, will regret to learn that he is confined to his bed owing to illness. Cabled advice has been received in Masterton from Birmingham of the death of Jonathan, the six-year-old son of the Rev. J. C. and Mrs McCallum. Mrs McCallum was formerly Miss Gwen Major, of’Masterton. Mr 11. O. Mellsop. Kumeu. Auckland. and Mr J. W. F. Jones, Pakaraka, Bay of Islands, were elected Dominion life members at the annual conference of the New Zealand Farmers' Union in Wellington yesterday. Al a meeting of the Wellington North electorate committee of the National Party on Monday night, presided over by Mr H. I. Graves, Mr T. C. A. Hislop, Mayor of Wellington, was unanimously selected as the National Party candidate for Wellington North. As a mark of respect to the memory of the late Mr Richard Wilson Hawke who was member for Kaiapoi from 1928 to 1935, the House of Representatives adjourned half an hour after the session was resumed yesterday. Mr Hawke died in Christchurch on Saturday. Notice has been received to report in Wellington preparatory to entering camp by Mr Moncur. M.P., for Rotorua, who enlisted for overseas service shortly after the outbreak of war. Two sons of Mr Moncur are in the services —one a leading aircraftman at Rongotai and the other taking a special course overseas. A tribute to the Dominion president of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union Mr W. W. Mulholland, was paid al the opening of the annual Dominion conference of the union in Wellington yesterday when the following motion was carried unanimously:-—"That this conference desires to record its deep appreciation of the untiring efforts of Mr W. W. Mulholland, our Dominion president, in the interests of the farming community in particular, and the Dominion as a whole. We recognise his sterling worth, his undoubted ability, and sound judgment and assure him of our continued support and loyalty."
