REPORTS FOR PAST MONTH STREETS & FOOTPATHS. COLLECTION OF NON-FERROUS METALS. At the monthly meeting of the Masterton Borough Council held last night the borough engineer. Mr C. R. Mabson, reported, inter alia, that tree roots had been removed and the footpaths repaired in a number of streets. The flanks of a number of streets have been resurfaced. New screens were made for the Upper Plain reservoir, and the reservoir was cleaned out. and a now intake trough constructed for the 12inch pipe-line. A new sump was put in on the six-inch scour-line. The sanitary inspector, Mr T. A. Russell, reported: One case of erysipelas was notified during June and to date this month one case of diphtheria has been reported. Twelve plumbing and drainage permits were issued and the usual testing‘and inspection work carried out. The installation of drainage to the Government houses was proceeding. The following requisitions were served: Plumbing and drainage repairs 4, repair roof 2, clear drain 3, clear creek 2, remove manure 1. The usual milk samples were taken for general analysis and for reductase tests. The analyst’s report on the water sample taken last month stated: “From the chemical analysis the water appears to be of a good quality.” Masterton’s share. £52 13s 3d, out of the Wellington Provincial District total of £1077 for the collection of nonferrous metals said Mr Russell, on a population basis was quite satisfactory. They again had a fair amount of nonferrous metal accumulating and the collection was being continued. Rolled aluminimum, of which saucepans were made, gave a return of 9d a lb.
