FEATHERSTON

RED CROSS SOCIETY SUCCESSFUL EUCHRE PARTY. (“Times-Age” Special.) The local branch of the Red Cross Society held a successful euchre party yesterday afternoon when the Prisoners of War Parcels Fund benefited by £2 10s 6d. The winner at cards was Miss Nix. Competitions were won by Mrs Sim and Miss Gibb. Donations were received from the following: Mrs Algie (cake), Miss Gibb (raisin loaf), Mrs Batty (biscuits) and Miss Palliser. The following cash donations are acknowledged: Mr and Mrs T. Lang £2 2s, Mrs Q. Donald £l, Mrs G. Yule ss. Personal Items. Mr F. White is attending the annual Church of England Synod in Wellington this week. Personal Items. Mr and Mrs F. Alexander, Lyall Bay, were the guests of Mrs Tutbury for the weekend. Miss Betty Smith has returned from Wellington, where she carried out V,A. duties at a clearing station last week. Last evening the staff of the local Post Office met to bid farewell to Mr J. B. Davis, who has been Postmaster at Featherston for the past four years. Supervisor J. W. Holland said that the staff regretted the departure of Mr Davis, and asked him to accept a set of salad dishes, together with the best wishes of the staff. Messrs H. Hart, Lynskey and J. Andersen spoke in a similar strain. Mr Davis suitably replied.
