COTTON MILLS
REGISTERED AS BRITISH & AMERICAN SEIZURE PROPOSED BY NANKING. AMERICAN MARINES GUARDING SETTLEMENT. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day. 11.25 a.m.) NANKING, July 14. The Government has announced the taking over of two Chinese-owned cotton mills on August 1, of which one is registered as British and the other as American. The action is taken on the ground that the mills are owned by the Chungking Government. The United Press says foreign authorities are extremely concerned, because the registrants declare that they will continue to operate the mills despite Nanking’s order. The mills are located in a part of the Settlement guarded by United States Marines.
