COUNTY AFFAIRS
MEETING OF MAURICEVILLE COUNCIL PROPOSED OVERHEAD BRIDGE. HEAVY TRAFFIC FEES. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Mauriceville County Council was held yesterday afternoon, the chairman Mr E. W. Cheetham. presiding, there being also present Councillors A. Forsberg, D. Bennett. A. Gray, J. H. MacDonald and O. Welch. The treasurer's report, which showed a debit balance of £835 10s 7d, was adopted. Accounts amounting to £LB33 3s 8d were passed. The Public Works Department wrote requesting the consent of the council to the taking over of an area of 13.4 perches for the purpose of a road for a proposed overhead bridge at Mauriceville. A circular from the New Zealand Counties’ Association was received regarding a proposed Rivers Control Bill, as prepared by the Public Works Department. Councillors commented on the very detailed report '/ i h?:l been given by the association «j. ; .ac clerk was instructed to acknowl the report.
The chairman reported that lie had attended a recent meeting of the Main Highways Council and advised that the applications for subsidies furnished by the council had been approved subject to minor adjustments. A letter was received from the Town
Clerk of the Masterton Borough Council regarding a meeting of representatives of all boroughs and counties within the Wairarapa to discuss matters of common interest, in particular' Home Guard, Emergency Precautions Scheme and patriotic matters. The chairman, Mr Cheetham, Councillors A. Forsberg and the County Clerk were appointed delegates to attend the meeting. The county engineers. Messrs Seaton, Sladden and Pavitt. advised that the Kopuaranga Stream Bridge on the Mauriceville-Hastwell Highway was nearing completion. A report by the district traffic inspector, Mr W. G. Milne, regarding traffic inspection during the month was received. The clerk was instructed to advise the Masterton County Council that the council was prepared to continue the present agreement regarding the apportionment of heavy traffic fees.for a further period of two years. The overseer’s report was received and future work was discussed and arranged for.
