ESPERANTO
MASTERTON CLUB MEETING. The weekly meeting of the Masterton Esperanto Club was held lasi evening, Mr W. J. Beresford presiding over a good attendance of members. Commenting on the position of Esperanto in Britain, Mr Beresford said that information recently received disclosed that clubs in England and Scotland continue to meet regularly and outings are arranged. Many clubs announce new members and new courses of study, and a correspondence course results had exceeded all expectations. The 36th Scottish congress was held last month at Glasgow and the annual meeting of British Esperantists took place at Oxford during April. British Esperantist teachers had also held a five-day gathering at Oxford in April. The British Esperantist Association is making efforts to have Esperanto used along with a score of national tongues now employed by the 8.8. C. Following an air raid, the death was announced of Mr Edward Millidge. Esperantist lexicographer and member of the Esperanto Language Academy, who had won world fame by his outstanding activities on behalf of Esperanto. Mrs N. Lamont presented an Esperanto poem, “Ho! Mia Kor, originally written in the international tongue by the late Dr. Zamenhof, the inventor of the language. Study comprised reading, translation and repetition reading. This was undertaken with a view to developing members' use of Esperanto and good progress was made in practical work. The concluding item was contributed by the secretary. Mr W. H. King, who delivered a further short talk in Esperanto from the series “From the Life of a Soldier.”
