SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP
CARTERTON v OLD BOYS. EASY WIN FOR VISITORS. ' Carterton and Old Boys met at Lansdowne on Saturday on a very heavy ground; nevertheless some very bright hockey was witnessed. The Carterton defence was a main feature of the game, Ward and Townsend being prominent in this connection. Worthington. Faulknor and Jaspers, who played good attacking games, were handicapped through the good defence of Carterton. The game started at a slow pace, Carterton being first to attack, Fisher having a shot which just missed. Shortly after Worsfold had a shot which Parsons stopped. Old Boys then attacked and Marchbanks missed a shot at goal. Again being in a good position Old Boys’ chances were spoiled by a breach from which Carterton cleared well with a free hit, putting them on the attack. Old Boys had to concede a penalty corner from which Worsfold scored after 15 minutes’ play. ■Old Boys attacked and had two chances but sticks and off side gave Carterton relief, and Worsfold went through to again score. Carterton went to the attack from the bully and Old Boys conceded a penalty corner but Worsfold’s shot missed. From the 25 bully Sewell went in to score from a fairly difficult angle, making Carterton .3 gbals up at the interval. From ■ the bully off Old Boys had Carterton in trouble, ‘Worthington drawing the defence, but his shot was saved by Ward. Shortly after Jaspers had a shot which Ward saved. Carterton broke away to the attack and Sayers had a shot which hit the top cross bar. Old Boys then attacked and a breach by Carterton gave them a penalty corner from which Faulknor scored. From the bully Carterton attacked and R. Ordish goaled with a high shot into the net. Old Boys then livened up and Jaspers scored. Carterton went away from the bully, and both Parsons and Jaine made saves. From an Old Boys attack Marchbanks scored from a fairly acute angle. With about 8 minutes to go Carterton did most of the attacking and Worsfold scored two more goals and Knutson one, making the final score Carterton 7, Old Boys 3. Messrs Cole and Moor were the umpires. UMPIRES’ ASSOCIATION. Umpires are reminded of the meeting to be held in the P. and A. Rooms, Carterton., on Wednesday, at 7.30 p.m. Cars will leave the P. 0., Masterton, at 7 p.m.
