SPIRITUAL DISCERNMENT
The paradox which faces our spiritual discernment is that in conditions which are above reproach the soul of man may lose some of its finer qualities, while in circumstances which seem a flat denial of progress the soul achieves triumphs that are immortal, writes Dr Sidney M. Berry. It is that paradox' which prevents any easy generalisations about the present situation. The one certain thing is that the inspiration which brings strength dwells more on the heroic than on the pathetic, and more upon the soul as the conqueror of circumstances than as their victiom. This marks the supreme importance of a wise and true discernment, for the religion which indulges its taste for condemning the world is not a religion which has either the insight or the power to save it.
