GERMAN ARMOURED DIVISIONS. Behind Screen of Fresh Units BROUGHT FROM THE WESTERN FRONT RUSSIANS REPORT MILLION ENEMY CASUALTIES (By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright.) (Received This Day, 11.45 a.m.) LONDON, July IT Behind a screen of fresh units brought from western Europe, the Germans are reported to be repairing their overworked Panzer divisions and resting the exhausted personnel before beginning a new drive against the Red line. Commentators consider that the first great eastern battles have yet to come, but believe that the Russians can await the onslaught with reasonable confidence. . The Russian line, apart from the right flank, which is thrown forward into Estonia, and a slight bulge in the Ukraine sector, is fairly straight. A Moscow communique says no events of importance occurred on the front last night. The Red Air Force blasted tie refittinp- depots of the Panzer divisions, far behind tne German spearheads, smashing hundreds of tanks. Attacks weie also made on aerodromes and troop concentrations. The Germans are venting their wrath on the Russian armies by attacking ambulance planes used to convoy gravely wounded men to the rear. According to a Stockholm report, women and children threw grenades and fired machine-guns and rifles as German armoured units entered the burning port of Libau, north of Memel. Every time the Germans tried to enter the town they were repelled. Finally they were compelled to shell and bomb the place until it was in great part destroyed. , , , The Berlin Radio claims that the Luftwaffe bombed the railway near Jitomir, derailing trains, and also cut the LeningradMoscow line in two places. . , , The Soviet Defence Committee has appointed Marshal Voroshilov to command the north-western front, Marshal Timoshenko the western front and Marshal Budenny ’ the southwestern front. The Moscow Radio says the appointments weie made because the main directions of the German operations are now apparent. M. Lozovsky, interviewed, said the initial German attack was beginning to fizzle out, Germany’s difficulties were increasing and she was heading for a catastrophe. Over a million Germans bad been killed or wounded since the outbreak of the RussoGerman war. .
