UNREFRIGERATED

SHIPMENTS OF CHEESE MINISTER REPORTS SUCCESS. FOOD FOR BRITAIN. . (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. As a result of ihe success of the first small trial shipments of cheese, sent from New Zealand as unrefrigerated cargo, the British Ministry of Food has asked for further and considerably larger shipments, and these are to be sent almost at once. An announcement to this effect was made by the Minister of Marketing, Mr Barclay, interviewed in Auckland by telephone last night. The first unrefrigerated cargoes are said to have arrived in Britain in very satisfactory condition. “The forthcoming shipments, though they will •still be regarded as experimental, will be 25 times as large as any sent previously, thus approaching usual commercial quantities,” said Mr Barclay. “The reason for experimenting with unrefrigerated shipments is that, in order to give Britain the 160,000 tons of cheese that she requires this year, the Government wants to be able to send cargoes by every possible means, and not to be entirely dependent on the amount of refrigerated space available.”
