FAST PROGRESS IN U.S.A. EXPECTATIONS EXCEEDED. PARTICULARS OF BATTLESHIP COSTS. i'By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright! WASHINGTON. July 9. The Chief of the Naval Bureau, Admiral Robinson, declared that the shipbuilding programme was proceeding much faster l han the most optimistic naval num had expected. Consequent ly. it was absolutely essential to speed up t he product ion of materials to keep up the pace. He disclosed that by 1943 the United States will be producing 100 destroyers a year. He said that the battleships North Carolina and Washington have been built in the naval yards at a cost of 52.900 000 and 50 912.000 dollars respectively. The battleships Massachusetts, Indiana, and South Dakota are building in private yards at a cost of 59,702,000, 61.323,000 and 62,997 000 dollars respectively.
