Consequent ly. it was absolutely essential to speed up t he product ion of materials to keep up the pace. He disclosed that by 1943 the United States will be producing 100 destroyers a year. He said that the battleships North Carolina and Washington have been built in the naval yards at a cost of 52.900 000 and 50 912.000 dollars respectively. The battleships Massachusetts, Indiana, and South Dakota are building in private yards at a cost of 59,702,000, 61.323,000 and 62,997 000 dollars respectively.
