NAZI DESERTERS
THOUSANDS AWAITING OPPORTUNITY ACCORDING TO SOVIET OFFICIAL. BEST GERMAN DIVISIONS ANNIHILATED. LONDON, July 10. Thousands of the Germans on the eastern front are waiting for the opportune moment to desert, the Soviet Information Bureau spokesman, M. Lcfcovsky, declared in a statement in Moscow. Germany’s initial success, he stated, was due to their ultra-secret opening attack in which they used 10,000 tansk. The Tass news agency says that three German bombers landed on the Soviet-Estonian frontier after jettisoning their bombs in a lake. The crews surrendered, saying that they did not wish to fight against the Soviet. A commentator who has begun a series of daily war surveys over Moscow radio said, “The best German
divisions have already been annihilated. Hitler will soon see that the Red Army knows the art of inflicting defeats in addition to the art of defence.” The Tass agency states that the collective farms throughout the Soviet Union are straining every nerve to gather in an unprecedently bountiful harvest in record time. The Germans will get nothing.
