MASTERTON SALE
KEEN COMPETITION, SHEEP PRICES IMPROVE. The Associated Auctioneers report on their weekly Masterton sale yesterday as follows:—An entry of approxi-' mately 3.000 sheep, and also a good entry of cattle and a large consignment of horses were offered to a large and representative attendance of buyers. Competition throughout was keen, outside buyers operating freely. Fat sheep, which were of better quality, met with a slightly better demand, while the store sheep, especially ewes r.w. ram, and both ewe and wether hoggets made prices in advance of those ruling at our last sale. The fat cattle sold on a par. The special entry of horses offered on account of “White Rock” station attracted attention and these, which were unbroken, sold from £8 to £l3 for good unbroken 3 and 4year hacks, and from £3 to £5 for heavier sorts. A total clearance was effected under the hammer and the following list will indicate values: — Sheep: Fat wethers, 23s 9d to 24s 8d; fat b.f. lambs. 20s 6d to 245;, fat white face lambs, 21s Id to 22s 9d; fat ewes, 12s to 13s 2d; lighter sorts, 8s 3d, 8s 7d, to 10s; 2-th ewes r.w. S.D., 30s to 33s 7d; 4 and 6-th ewes, r.w.r., 25s Id; 4 and. 5-yr ewes, r.w.r., 21s 7d; 4 and 5-yr ewes r.w. S.D., 18s 3d to 14s lOd; fwd wethers, 22s Id; store ewes, to 7s, 4s and 3s; woolly ewe hoggets 21s 6d; woolly wether lambs. 16s 3d to 20s 2d; shorn wether lambs, 14s to 18s 4d; b.f. store lambs. 18s to 18s 3d. Cattle: Fat cows, light Herefords, £6 4s; do P.A., £6; runners, £3: spg. Jersey cows, £lO, £9 ss, to £8 ss; later calvers, £7, to £7 ss.
