SAVAGE TERRORISM

INSTITUTED BY THE NAZIS

IN RUMANIA attempts to put down SABOTAGE. WHOLESALE EXECUTIONS THREATENED. (British Official Wireloss.) RUGBY. July 8. From every European country under Hitler’s heel news reaching Britain tells of the rising loathing which will in good time submerge the Nazis’ “new order.” The latest news is of Rumania, and comes from Marshal Goering's newspaper, the Essen ‘‘National Zeitung.” This paper complains of “constant acts of sabotage behind the German lines in Rumania." While German anti-aicraft batteries are watching and fighting for the defence of Rumanian soil, it states, the fact has been established that light signals which are frequently given from Rumanian houses in the villages and woods are helping the Red Air Force to find its targets. In the last few days these acts of sabotage have increased so considerably that the Rumanian authorities have been forced to take the severest measures. A great number of arrests have been made and many culprits shot. These measures, however, have been insufficient, and it has therefore been announced in Bucharest that “for each attack on German or Rumanian soldiers 50 Rumanian Jews or known Communist citizens will be shot as hostages.” The death sentence for food supply offences has recently been introduced in Rumania. According to the newspaper "Niedrich Deutsche Zeitung." “during the last week not less than 13.000 cattle and lt>— wagons of wheat have been stolen."
