VICHY TROOPS
FORCE OF 264 ABOARD ST. DIDIER SHIP SUNK IN TURKISH WATERS. TWO OTHER VESSELS ON WAY FROM SALONIKA. (By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright) (Received This Day, 1.15 p.m.) ANKARA, July 8. The Saint Didier, the Vichy ship sunk by British aircraft in Turkish waters, had’ on board 264 Vichy troops and a crew of 16. All were saved and interned, except twenty who were injured, of whom five died. The presence of the troops appears to confirm earlier reports that Vichy forces have arrived in Salonika. Two other French vessels are reported to have left Salonika for Beirut.
