Mr H. B. Irvine, who underwent an operation in the Masterton Hospital last week, is making good progress.

Mrs Knott. Archer Street. Masterton, has received advice that her son, Pte. A. R. Knott, is a prisoner of war in Greece.

Mr and Mrs Fred Yule, of Carterton. have received word that their son. Warrant Officer II James Yule is a prisoner of war in Greece.

Mr A. F. Eilers, teller at the Pahiatua branch of the Bank of New Zealand, has received notice of his transfer to the bank’s head office in Wellington.

The Rev. O. T. Baragwanath, Moderator of the Presbytery of Clutha, has resigned from the charge of Balclutha to undertake the work of chaplain to the forces.

Mi’ Leo du Chateau, founder of the Wellington Repertory Society, who ‘is well-known in Masterton, was elected a life member of the society at the annual general meeting last night.

Advice was received in Masterton this morning by Mrs J. K. Welch, that her husband, Temporary Sergeant Major J. K. Welch, who was posted as missing in Greece, is now a prisoner of war.

The death has occurred of Mr Duncan McLean, Takapau. A well-known farmer in central Hawke's Bay, Mr McLean arrived from Perthshire more than 42 years ago. He worked in the South Island for two years, and then went to Hawke's Bay, managing a station at Twyford for the late Mr James Bell. He afterwards took up a place of his own at Makaretu South, Takapau, where he farmed till two years ago, when he retired and lived in Takapau till his death. He took an active part in sheepdog trials, and had been several times among the prizewinners at New Zealand and North Island championships.
