CENTRAL SCHOOL
MEETING OF COMMITTEE. IMPROVEMENTS TO EAST GROUNDS. The monthly meeting of the Central School Committee was held in the school when there were present: Messrs J. E. MeV. Calwell (in the chair), W. R. Nicol, J. H. Cole, I. E. Gibbs, P. H. Shaw, C. J. Braggins and A. E. Nelson. The financial statement was adopted and accounts amounting to £2B 13s 8d were passed. It was decided to write thanking the Trust Lands Trust for the generous grants which had been allotted to the school at the last meeting of the Trust. The headmaster. Mr E. C. Coddington, who was present, read his monthly report and was congratulated by the committee. The report showed that the roll number had again increased slightly and the attendance was gradually improving now that mumps and whooping cough were subsiding. The percentage of attendance was now 86. The school had been visited by Mr Ball, M.A., L.L.B. (senior inspector from the l Education Department). Mr Brockett had also spent several days at the school. Mr O’Kane had been sent to Whareama to .relieve and Mrs Hayward had come to Central. , The secretary was instructed to proraje some wcod for the fires in the annexe building. The requirements of the headmaster were dealt with. It was decided to apply through the board for labour for carrying out certain ground improvements at the East School. The visiting committee for the month is Messrs Dixon, Cole and Butler.
