WEDDING

HERRICK—HOWIE. The wedding took place on June 18, at St. Mark’s Anglican Church. Carterton, of Rona, elder daughter of Mr and Mrs C. Howie, Ahiaruhe, and Nelander Horace Herrick, eldest son of Mr and Mrs H. L. Herrick, Kokotau. The Rev. W. F. Stent was the officiating clergyman, and Mr W. G. Thomas presided at the organ. The bride, who was escorted by her father, looked charming in a beautiful gown of ivory lace over slipper satin, cut on slender lines and falling into a long train. The bodice, which was trimmed with a Peter Pan collar and tiny satin -buttons, had long sleeves coming to a point over the hands. She wore a beautiful embroidered tulle veil, which fell over her face, and was caught with a halo of orange blossoms. She carried a shower bouquet of white spring bulbs, winter roses and maidenhair fern.

The bride was attended by three bridesmaids, Misses Betty Howie, sister of the bride (chief), Mary and Betty Herrick, sisters of the bridegroom. They were all frocked alike in pink lace patterned with white daisies, worn over stiffened white taffeta. Their headdress consisted of pleated pink net halos caught with flowers and they carried bouquets of pink heather, orchids and winter roses. They each wore a double string of pearls, the gift of the bridegroom. The bridal veil worn by the bride was lent by (he bridegroom’s aunt, Mrs Pink, which the latter had worn at her own wedding. The bouquets were the work of Mr Pink.

The bridegroom was attended by his brothei’ Mr W. Herrick as best man. Messrs Ray Hopkins and J. Herrick acted as groomsmen. After the ceremony a reception was held in the Masonic Hall, Carterton. where the guests were received by the bride’s mother, assisted by the bridegroom’s mother. Mrs Howie wore a long black lace frock patterned in autumn tints and a black silk velvet coat. Mrs Herrick was attired in saxeblue beaded georgette and a musquash fur coat. They both carried posies to tone. When Mr and Mrs N. H. Herrick left later for their honeymoon, which was spent in the South Island, the bride wore a brown check coat, fur stole, with brown accessories. On their return they took up their residence at “Pelham.” Ponotahi.
