No motor-buses will run in Auckland after 7 o’clock tonight unless either the Minister of National Service, Mr Semple, or the Auckland Drivers’ Union, is prepared to give way concerning the motor-vehicle lighting restrictions. The Minister ruled yesterday that, subject to a speed limit of 25 miles an hour on certain bus routes, the lighting restrictions must be observed by all road users, including bus drivers. The reply of the secretary of the union, Mr L. G. Matthews, was.that buses would not run after seven o’clock tonight. Soldier Sent to Gaol. “I think that this was a particularly rpean theft, because your comrade trusted you,” said Mr Salmon, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court, Wanganui, yesterday, to George Alick Robert Irving, when sentencing him to one month’s imprisonment for the theft of a watch valued at £3 10s, the property of Mrs D. Scott, Invercargill. Detective-Ser-geant J. K. Robertson said that Irving was a member of the Second N.Z.E.F., and was' invalided home. Sergeant D. Scott entrusted him with a - parcel to send to Mrs Scott. He stole the watch which was in the parcel, and sent the remainder of the articles to Invercargill. He had been before the Court previously for theft. Patriotic Act. A patient who has been in the Wanganui Public Hospital for 10 years recently made a charcoal drawing of Britain’s Prime Minister, Mr Churchill, which has been bought by Kennedy Bros, for £2OO. This amount has been given by the artist, Mr Boulton, to be divided equally between the Air Force queen, Miss Margaret Brown, and the Nursing Services queen, Sister Olive M. Marchant. Mr Boulton was born in Auckland about 30 years ago. He received an injury to his back while attending primary school there. He later attended Auckland Grammar School. His injury developed more serious consequences, practically depriving him of the use of his legs. He spends all his time in bed but is allowed to get up for about half an hour each day. Winner of Car Raffle Found. In dramatic circumstances the holder of the winning ticket in the raffle of a motor-car conducted by the Automobile Association (Wellington) in aid of the Victory Queen Carnival was discovered on Sunday, six weeks after the drawing. He is Mr J. Flanagan, 53 Hall Street, Wellington South. The car was the gift of the association. How the search for the owner of the motor-car came to an end was told to members of the executive of the association at its monthly meeting last night by the chairman, Mr E. A. Batt. Mr Batt said that Mr Flanagan was a member of the Miramar- Golf Club, and on Sunday he went to his locker to refer to some papers. There he found* a ticket in the raffle, and Mr H. Aplin, who was already known as the seller of the winning ticket, being present, it was promptly identified. The 'ticket was sold in February.
