RESISTANCE OF THE ITALIANS IN EAST AFRICA Only Two Isolated Forces Holding Out FURTHER SURRENDER OF REMNANTS IN AREA SOUTH AND SOUTH-WEST OF ADDIS ABABA LONDON, July 4. A special Middle East communique announces the collapse of practically all Italian resistance in East Africa. The commander of the remnants of the Italian forces in the area south and south-west of Addis Ababa, together with all Italian forces in that area, has surrendered. Except for the Italian garrison at Gondar and a small column in wild country south-west of Assab, the campaign in East Africa has now been brought to a successful close. It is officially stated in Nairobi that the Italian force south of Assab numbers about 600. Abyssinian patriots are isolating the remnants of Italian forces around Gondar.
