VISJT TO NELSON. A CIVIC WELCOME. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) NELSON, July 4. The Governor-General and Lady Newall paid their first official visit to Nelson today. His Excellency addressed a gathering of school children this morning when he referred to the boy scout and girl guide movements as most valuable organisations for training boys and girls in good citizenship and equipping them for the task of rebuilding the world’ which would come after the war. •». A civic welcome was tendered this afternoon when his Excellency stressed that willingly united free people were required in order to win the war. Each New Zealander should make sure nothing was left undone which might help the Empire in the struggle to defeat Nazism. Their Excellencies’ programme included visits to the air force station and the public hospital.
