“THE DOVER ROAD”
FINAL REHEARSAL LAST NIGHT.
The final rehearsals for the production tomorrow and Monday evenings of pn Ver R O ad’’ by the Masterton Little Theatre Society, are reported fully to justify the expectations of all concerned for an exceptional performance. None of Milne’s whimsical humour is lost in the splendid portrayals, by the whole cast, of their respective parts. Mr J. A. Kennedy has never been better suited than in his role of Mr Latimer, in which he is ably supported by Mr V. Joseph in the almost equally important part of Dominic. Mr J. Kent-Johnston and Miss B. Francis, and Mr N. Jones and Mrs H. R. Keltie, as two pairs of eloping couples, to whom Mr Latimer contrives to administer his highly original form of treatment, are admirable in their parts,’and miss none of the humour of their lines and actions. Mrs T. Jordan and Mr Mackenzie Douglas add the finishing touch to a delightful performance in their last-minute arrival as another pail' of “patients” arriving for treatment. In addition, Mr Latimer’s “staff” (Misses P. and J. Shearer, and Messrs K. Jaine and A. M. M. Douglas) pervade the play in a delightfully humorous manner.
No doubt much of the success of the producer, Mrs E. J. Rich, with her cast is due to the happy relations she invariably succeeds in establishing with them. In token of this, the cast, at last evening’s rehearsal, presented Mrs Rich with a cuja, saucer and plate, a well-deserved tribute to her patience and skill throughout the rehearsals. Messrs Steele and Bull report that bookings for both performances are excellent, though a few good scats are still available.
