METHODIST CHURCH

LADIES’ GUILD. MONTHLY MEETING IN MASTERTON. There was a large attendance at the monthly meeting of the Masterton Methodist Ladies’ Guild held in the infant Sunday schoolroom on Wednesday afternoon. The president. Mrs G. G. Hancox, extended a welcome to all. and expressed pleasure at having Mrs Taylor (Dominion President of the Methodist Missionary Auxiliary), Miss Masters, of Feilding, and members of the Masterton Missionary Auxiliary present. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames Miller and Iveson and Miss Prentice.

The Rev. G. S. Kings was present and conducted a short devotional period. The happy thought for the month was given by Mrs Daysh. A resolution was passed supporting the suggestion of the Women's Christian Temperance Union that the Government be asked to enforce and tighten up some of the licensing laws.

It was ascertained that Mesdames Barnes and Brown had received word that their sons had been posted as missing. The secretary was asked to convey to these ladies the deepest sympathy of the members and express the hope that good news would soon be received concerning their safety. The speaker for the afternoon was Mrs Taylor, who gave an inspiring talk on the Mission work. After telling of the splendid work done by the Missionary sisters in the Solomon Islands the speaker stressed the urgent need for all to help to raise funds to send another Sister into the Mission fields.

In an appropriate manner Miss V. Jackson thanked Mrs Taylor for her talk. Miss Jackson said that she was certain that with such a leader the Missionary Auxiliary would extend its good work. During the afternoon enjoyable songs and elocutionary items were given by Mesdames Speight and Keltie. Mrs Whitlock acted as accompanist©. It was decided to hold the apron competition at the August meeting.

Afternoon tea was served by the tea hostesses, Mesdames Kings and Judd. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded to the tea hostesses and the ladies who had provided the programme.
