COURSING
NORTH ISLAND MEETING OPENING ROUNDS OF CUP EVENT. FAVOURITE NARROWLY DEFEATED. The Wairarapa Coursing Club's North Island Cup meeting commenced at the plumpton, Akura, yesterday afternoon. Good coursing was witnessed by the large attendance. Early in the afternoon a cold cross wind made conditions unpleasant but as the wind decreased later in the day, the conditions were more pleasant. Two rounds in the cup event were run off. The surprise of the meeting was the narrow defeat of the favourite, White Tracer, by Loch Lomond. The hare proved too fast for the dogs and little work was done. The score 1-1 indicated that little separated the dogs. Throughout the meeting the hares ran fast and proved very elusive, giving the dogs an opportunity to show speed and work. Today’s events were the Northern Purse, followed by the Northern Plate and the third round of the Cup event. Tomorrow the semi-finals and finals of the Cup, Purse and Plate events will be run off, in addition to a consolation event for dogs that have not won money at the meeting. Mr F. Yule, of Carterton, has donated £2 2s for the event.
