CARTERTON

OBITUARY MR HERBERT TICEHURST. (“Times-Age” Special.) The death occurred at the Croydon Hospital last evening of a well-known and respected farmer, Mr Herbert Ticehurst. He had been ill for some months. At first he was an inmate of the Greytown Hospital and later was removed to the Croydon Hospital, Carterton. Born at Greytown in September, 1875, he had resided in the Wairarapa practically the whole of his life, except for a few years at Nireaha, where he purchased a farm. Relinquishing this he came back to the Wairarapa and purchased a farm at Swamp Road, Carterton, which he had successfully farmed ever since. Deceased, who was very popular among his friends, was a prominent cricketer in his early days and he made many good scores for various cricket clubs in South Wairarapa. He is survived by a widow, one son and two daughters. They are Mr E. K. Ticehurst, Mrs McDonald, Wellington, and Miss Phyllis Ticehurst, school teacher of Levin. Messrs W. Ticehurst, Greytown, and Edward Ticehurst, Otahuhu, are brothers, and Mesdames R. Bassett, Matarawa, and Morris, Woodville, sisters. The funeral will take place tomorrow, leaving for the Greytown Cemetery. FOOTBALL WAIRARAPA v. HAWKE’S BAY. The return match between the Wairarapa and Hawke’s Bay teams which is to be played on Memorial Park. Masterton, on Saturday, is being looked forward to with considerable interest in football circles. The game on the King’s Birthday at Napier, which ended in a draw, was, according to supporters, an unlucky game insofar, as Wairarapa was concerned, It is expected that Wairarapa will give a good account of themselves tomorrow and should fully extend the wearers of the black and white jerseys. There should be a very large attendance of supporters of New Zealand’s popular winter pagtime. A curtain-raiser, third grade Possibles v. Probables, should provide good football.
