BASKETBALL SCORING

(To the Editor.) Sir,—l was astounded to read last night that the State men’s team had been officially declared winners in the W.F.C.A.-State game last Tuesday. By now it is common knowledge by the large gallery,’the blackboard scorer, and also in the minds of both teams, that the book scorer missed one goal (2 points) scored by F. Bodie, for W.F.C.A. How can it be said that no official figures or result were given? Is not the blackboard official? It will certainly show a poor spirit of sportsmanship if State accept the championship points for a match which they must well know they lost. In conclusion, this sort of thing is regrettable, as it will prove a setback to a very popular winter pastime. —Yours, etc., GALLERY. Masterton, July 4.
