AIRCRAFT LOSSES
DURING MONTH OF JUNE ENEMY’S MORE THAN TWICE AS HEAVY. DESPITE INTENSIVE BRITISH ATTACKS. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 11.15 a.m.) RUGBY, July 3. Figures from official communiques reveal British and enemy aircraft losses for June. Over Britain and British coastal waters the enemy lost 52 and the British 2. Over Germany and enemy-occupied territory, the enemy lost 183 and the British 160. Over the Mediterranean fronts, inclusive, the enemy lost 225 and the British 66. In addition, twelve enemy planes were destroyed at sea. It was during this period that fighter sweeps and the daylight bombing of occupied territory assumed a more intense form. In spite of this, a majority of British losses over Germany and occupied territory occurred during night raids, when heavier and more concentrated attacks than ever before were made, reflecting the growing power of the British bomber forces.
